Privacy Policy

Cappy ("we," "our," or "us") is a desktop application for Windows developed by Tera28 Technologies, LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information Cappy collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

What we do NOT collect:

• Your screen recordings, screenshots, or project files — these stay entirely on your device
• Microphone audio beyond what is processed locally for AI features (see Section 3)
• Keystroke or mouse activity logs
• Browsing history or data from other applications

What we may collect:

• Purchase information — handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor. We receive a license key and your email address to deliver your purchase. We do not store payment card details.
• Crash reports and logs — anonymous error logs generated locally by electron-log. These are stored only on your device and are not automatically transmitted to us.
• Update checks — Cappy contacts github.com/Tera28Tech/cappy-releases on launch to check for newer versions. This request includes your current version number and OS version. No personal data is sent.
• License verification — Cappy contacts license.getcappy.app on launch to verify your license key. See Section 2 for details.

2. License Verification

When you activate or launch Cappy, the app contacts our license server at license.getcappy.app to verify your key. This request transmits your license key and a device identifier — no other personal data is sent. Our license server then communicates with Lemon Squeezy to confirm your entitlement.

Offline use: If Cappy cannot reach the license server, it will continue to work for up to 7 days without re-verification. After 7 days offline, a warning is shown. After 30 days offline, a valid connection is required to continue. This grace period applies to network failures only — intentionally revoked or refunded licenses are blocked immediately.

3. AI Features (Optional)

Cappy's AI step-note feature is entirely optional and requires you to provide your own OpenAI API key in the app settings. When this feature is used:

• Microphone audio recorded during a session is sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription
• Transcribed text is sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o API to generate step descriptions
• Your use of these features is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy
• We do not receive, store, or process your audio or transcripts — all API calls are made directly from your device using your key

4. Data Storage

All Cappy data — recordings, screenshots, project files (.srproj), and settings — is stored locally on your Windows device. We have no access to this data. If you uninstall Cappy, this data remains unless you manually delete it.

5. Third-Party Services

• Lemon Squeezy — payment processing and license management. See their Privacy Policy.
• GitHub — hosts our software releases for auto-update delivery.
• OpenAI — optional AI transcription and summarization (only if you enable this feature with your own API key).

6. Children's Privacy

Cappy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Cappy after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
